The story of Amative is one of evolution, introspection, and the raw power of artistic connection. It all began in 2020 when I first conceptualized the demo version of the track with local Chicago artist "The Ultimate Rage." I was influenced heavily by the haunting, atmospheric vibes of The Weeknd, hoping to create something that would encapsulate that dark, moody, yet seductive R&B feel. Little did I know, this was just the beginning of a journey that would span years and countless emotions.
Fast forward to 2024, and I found myself deep into the creative process for my upcoming project DYING TO LIVE. As I sifted through beats, searching for the perfect fit, I stumbled upon the Amative demo once again. Something about it caught me off guard—its sorrowful undertones and emotional depth stood out. At that moment, I realized that Amative wasn’t just a song; it was a cornerstone of my artistic expression. The track had a story to tell, and I had to bring it to life in a way that transcended its original version.
The first iteration of Amative became the mournful centerpiece of my 6th EP, resonating with themes of toxic love and a love triangle that was bound to implode. It was a moment of vulnerability—a place where listeners could feel the pain of longing and betrayal. The track was recorded in two intense studio sessions over four hours that left me feeling like there was more to be uncovered. The sound was there, but the full emotional spectrum had yet to be realized.
Then, two months after the release, an unexpected message changed everything. Mike.watt$—an artist and producer I met back in college—reached out with a remix of Amative. But this wasn’t just any remix. This version injected a fresh sound, a new perspective that completely reimagined the original. I was floored. The remix was not only a reinterpretation of the song, but it elevated it, bringing out emotions and dynamics I hadn’t even realized were there. The addition of Mike’s feature added another layer of depth to the track, making it a true collaboration.
Both versions of Amative—the original and the remix—hold a special place in my heart. Each represents a different moment in time, a different perspective on love, loss, and longing. Amative isn't just a song; it’s a testament to growth, change, and collaboration.
The song’s lyrics delve into the theme of betrayal, capturing the moment when someone discovers they’ve been lied to. "I know what you did" speaks to the raw vulnerability of realizing you’ve been played, while “Save it for someone who really cares” captures that paradox of apathy and longing simultaneously. It’s a message that speaks to anyone who’s ever been in a toxic relationship—where love is both destructive and all-consuming.
Adding a visual element to Amative was a no-brainer. The music video, filmed and edited by someone I hold dear, added even more layers to the already complex emotional landscape of the song. It wasn’t just about capturing the feel of the track; it was about deepening the narrative, making the love triangle come to life on screen in a way that felt personal, intimate, and real.
Amative has become more than just a song in my catalog. It’s an experience. An emotional rollercoaster. A journey from heartbreak to redemption. Whether you’re listening to the original demo or vibing to the remix with Mike.watt$, Amative is a reminder that music, like love, can be both painful and beautiful at the same time.
